Vienna 1999

The Jewish European Ball

The Jewish European Ball was organized for the first time in March 1999 in Vienna in the legendary "Imperial Palace". A Unique event that turned out to be the biggest Jewish Event of the past century. 1500 young people from all over the world gathered together in Vienna to partake in this Ball. Our aim was to reunite Jewish Youth from all over the world and to give them the opportunity to meet young people from different communities. And people came from as far as Australia, Canada, United States of America and very single country in Europe. The participants spent a traditional Shabbat in the exclusive Hotel Intercontinental. A special Friday night service at the Great Synagogue as well as a walking tour of the Jewish Vienna were on the program schedule. The Ball itself, on Saturday, night was held in the prestigiouis Imperial Palace in the heart of Vienna; this historical building offered a real enchanting atmosphere for this unique event. The Ball was opened in the proper Vienese tradition: young "debutants" couples openend the Ball with a classical walse and everybody joined in. The young people danced on these historical floors until early in the morning. Bringing together young people though was not the only reason; part of the monies raised from the event flew to a particular fund which helps mistreated children.
